Acclaimed rock pioneer Lou Reed's music has transcended generations with uncommon ease. After cofounding the Velvet Underground in the 1960s, the masterful musician went solo in the '70s, carving out a career as a vocalist and poet whose influence can be heard in everything from punk to glam, new wave to modern rock. A Night With Lou Reed, documenting his sold-out 1983 engagement at the Bottom Line in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, brings the music home to where it started. Onstage with drummer Fred Maher, bassist Fernando Saun ders, and co-lead guitarist Robert Quine, Reed opens with the seminal "Sweet Jane," later delivering his classic "Walk on the Wild Side." Unlike studio recordings, these unique renditions for the live setting benefit from Reed's commanding stage presence and searing guitar, especially on extended versions of "Kill Your Sons" and "Rock 'n' Roll." The songs that complete Reed's fantastic set including "I'm Waiting for the Man," "Martial Law," "Don't Talk to Me About Work," "Women," "Waves of Fear," "Turn Out the Lights," "New Age," "Satellite of Love," and "White Light/White Heat" remain fundamentals for a music library.
